Partha Sur on Thursday, March 25, 2010 Madhubala suffered from a congenital heart problem called "atrial septal
defect" (hole in the heart). Surgery to correct this was only available in
the mid fifties in USA. She should have gone to USA for this. A trip to
London for surgery in 1960 was too late. Frank Capra (the famous Hollywood
producer / director) wanted to introduce her to Hollywood in 1952 but
Madhubala's father would not allow this - because she was the family
breadwinner. If she had gone to USA she would have been cured.
