Summary of songs that appeared in annual list of binaca geetmala 1972
A total of 37 songs appeared in annual list for the year 1972. The music for these 37 songs was composed by seven different music directors (last year also the same number of music directors made it to the annual list). This year top spot was shared by Laxmikant Pyarelal, and R D Burman with 10 songs each. The top song for the year was also composed by R D Burman. Shankar Jaikishan with 7 songs, Kalyanji Anandji with 5 songs followed. Ravi, and Gulam Mohammed composed the music for 2 songs each while Vasant Desai composed the music of one song.
Fifteen different lyricist made it to final annual list as compared to eleven different lyricist last year. Anand Bakshi was again on the top with 16 songs to his credit. Majrooh sultanpuri written the lyrics for three songs. Indeevar, Neeraj, Hasrat Jaipuri, Rajinder Krishan, and Verma Malik had 2 songs each to their credit. Eight lyricists had written the lyrics of one song each.
Amongst singers, it was again the year of Kishore Kumar who was on top with a total of 23 songs (11 solo and 12 duets). Lata Mangeshkar sung a total of 12 songs, out of which 3 were solo and 9 duet songs. Asha Bhosle sung a total of 7 songs. Mohd. Rafi with 5 songs (3 solo and 2 duets), and Mukesh with 4 songs (2 solo and 2 duets) followed. There were three other singer who have sung one song each. These were R D Burman, Suman Kalyanpur and Vani Jairam.
Further, there were a total eight films, which had two songs each in the annual list. These films were "Amar Prem", "Apna Desh", "Dushman", "Hare Rama Hare Krishna", "Janwar Aur Insaan", "Joru Ka Ghulaam", "Kal Aaj Aur Kal", and "Paakeezah". There were 21 other films having one song each being featured in annual list of binaca geetmala, 1972.
