Dear Sumaiya999. In the last four decades I worked /or had some interaction
with people from Trinidad and Guyana. No doubt they will remain Indian race
even after 1000 years in these countries. I beg to say since their
forefathers left India about 100 or more years ago, with time and western
influence Indian culture diluted with time. Most of them I found are/were
pick and choose, most of time they will associate with Goras and when they
see fit will claim their Indian heritage.

Dear sumaiya 999 At the end of the day we should love and respect everyone.
Indian culture taught us to respect everything living they even worship
trees and not to hurt anyone. No matter where one is from, Indian
traditionally showed respect to everyone. Indian heart is a very big one,
almost every single race come and go from India. In the end all got
absorbed in great civilization. India did not send even one soldier and won
the heart with Budhism China, Japan, Korea.. the list goes on.

@Vina410 I know the history, but I stand by my statement. Guyanese people
are Guyanese. You're "Indian" by DNA and your culture, traditions, etc. are
from India, but *nationally* you aren't Indian and haven't been for
generations. If you do speak Hindi, are one of the SCARCE few
Indo-Caribbeans that does...and even if you do, I doubt it's the same as
the Bhojpuri/Avadhi Hindi dialects of your ancestors...because even that
isn't spoken in India today the way it was when your ancestors left.

happybuddha33 on Wednesday, June 23, 2010
@Vina410 Wow. The name 'Sharma' is UNDENIABLY Punjabi. LOL I like "pure"
Urdu and Hindi. I really wouldn't call either of those languages pure, but
I understand your point. Again, you're a scarce few. Much respect to you
and your family for maintaining your culture. The only point I'm trying to
make is that Indo-Caribbean culture is very distinct from the cultures of
India. Like my grandma says, "If looks like a crow, it could still be a
raven." :]
