this story is just based on the fact that very often parents settled their
children's marriages not really thinking about the children's good, but
rather concentrating on their own petty ambitions, offences,etc.Both Dev
and Paro were practically victims to their mothers' quarrels and hurt
feelings. And this is what makes the story so tragic-but in the end they
broke free from all of it through death.Beautiful story.

disregard their children's happiness like this. Their children's happiness
should be their own happiness and ambition but unfortunately some parents
don't see that and that does not mean they aren't worth their children's
love. Parents do what they think is right for their kids... but they make
mistakes too. Dev's mother realized her mistake eventually but it was too
late as Paro was already married.

did a great thing paying respects to Dev's father on his deathbed... For
me, this film is full of heartbreaking sad scenes that also bring out the
dignity of the charachters in a lovely way - like Dev leading Paro to her
bridal palankin, her sticking out the hand with the lantern out of the
palanquin, Paro and Chandramukhi dancing together... The triumph of human
nobility in moments of dreadful misfortune

Indian culture was portrayed and shared with the world as an embellishment
to this world. And now, Bollywood films are filmed with actors and
actresses with no acting skills whatsoever. And now the Bollywood films
might as well be Hollywood because they have incorporated so much
Westernization into the industry. Makes me disappointed. I'm not Indian but
Bollywood films used to mean so much to me.
