What a song. Thank you amitajai. What lilting music. Excellent rendering.
The present day so called Star Singers must listen this to benchmark
themselves.

mutinyvizier on Sunday, July 26, 2009
One of the most difficult songs ever recorded in Hindi playback music -
Manna Da makes it look absurdly easy and cuts through it like soft butter -
that is just testimony to his extraordinary technique, breath control, and
vocal timber.

ntstatic on Wednesday, September 02, 2009
yes the gods themselves would appear, to enjoy this wonderfull song
incomparable... so called star singers do not dare benchmark with this
.

Arindam Sengupta on Saturday, September 12, 2009
I don't think that is correct - some of the present-day star singers (like
Sonu Nigam) are well-trained and can definitely do justice to songs like
this too.

Aryak Chatterjee on Wednesday, September 30, 2009
Sonu Nigam is not even 1/10 of Manna Dey. Manna Dey is a trained classical
singer. It is an insult of Manna Dey to compare him with any Tom,Dick or
Harry. I think a person who has a minimum musical knowledge would not dare
to compare this great singer with Sonu, even Sonu Nigam himself.

Arindam Sengupta on Wednesday, September 30, 2009
cool down man - this particular song doesn't have anything greatly
"classical" about it other than being based on a raga; besides, "classical"
music has to do with the same 12 notes as any other kind of music, right?
what is your opinion of Kishore, for instance, whose "classical" songs can
be counted on the fingers of one and? many of Manna Dey's "classical" songs
were really used comically in the films; go figure. this is not to say i
don't respect him or disagree he was underutilized.

Arindam Sengupta on Wednesday, September 30, 2009
besides, who told you today's singers are none of them classically trained?
your "maximum" musical knowledge, perhaps? to repeat, i too hold Manna Dey
in high regard, but refuse to live in the past. if there is predominantly
bad music in fllms today it is NOT the singers' fault; given good songs
they too can deliver. my example of Sonu was precisely that; just an
example. you missed the point altogether and unnecessarily flew into a
rage; better chill out. peace...

BhuvaneshB on Wednesday, September 30, 2009
As much as I like the song (and Manna da), I'm not sure about it being one
of the most difficult. It does need some breath control, but breath control
is an essential thing for a singer anyway -- if you don't have breath
control, you can't sing (at least not classical). The song is based on Miya
Malhar, btw. I don't see that mentioned yet. Of course, since it's a film
song, it doesn't really do much with the mandra saptak.

Aryak Chatterjee on Thursday, October 01, 2009
KK is a natural singer and everybody knows he had no classical
background. But nobody has a voice quality like him.Even greats like
Md.Rafi,Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey,Lataji have expressed their surprise, how he
sings without any formal training. There is only one KK.Yes Dey has a few
comedy songs. But he also has many immortal songs(not only classical or semi
classical). You rightly said there is no use to live in the past. But I
believe the word 'PAST' is not applicable for any timeless classic.Thanx.

ntstatic on Friday, October 23, 2009
it is hopeless to measure a piece of art as being classical or as being not
the most difficult or anything else. just enjoy the bliss it brings... (
and that is subjective depending upon your taste )

waah, waah! Gem of a song! Touches your heart and brings tears of joy.

One of the most difficult songs in Hindi film playback music repertoire.
Manna Day makes it look absurdly simple, cutting through it like butter. It
demands an almost a 2 octave range - low nishadha (flat 7th, C) on "gehra
pujari" and high pancham (fifth, A) on the aakar. Since Manna Dey (like
Rafi in Duniya ke Rakhwale) sings this song in the Key of D, the fifth or
high A should not sound like a yell, which it doesn't to MD's credit. Manna
Dey executes it beautifully with ridiculous ease.

pistachioguy on Thursday, August 18, 2011
@amitajai - thank you sir. It is low nishada (flat 7th, C) on "tera pujari"
not "gehra" - I was thinking in several minds when I wrote the comment, and
the "deep" idea overtook me (since it is a low note), hence "gehra" instead
of "tera". LOL!

Tara chhetri on Tuesday, March 27, 2012

MUSIC IS A REVELATION FROM PARAMATMA9THE LORD WITH AND WITHOUT NAME, WITH
AND WITHOUT FORM).A RELIGION WHICH HAS NOTHING ABOUT MUSIC IS AS DRY AS THE
DESERT OF AFRICA AND AS FALSE AS A MIRAGE.

A great composition sung by who else than the Manna De.

Shripad Dharmadhikari on Sunday, July 28, 2013
What a soulful, melodious rendering of a bhajan that is sure to touch heart
of even an atheist! Swami Vivekanada wanted us to be fearless. This prayer
addresses Him as "Bhaya bhanjana " I.e the one who liberates from fear. The
lyrics and the composition are undoubtedly superb and above all, Manna De's
rendering makes this song a connects our heart to His! Let's pray to the
almighty to give Manna De a healthy and longer life.

Shripad Dharmadhikari on Sunday, August 04, 2013
The lyricist, Shailendra, also deserves full credits.

In old days of bollywood, the song writer, music director and singer sit
together and spend many weeks to compose one song. And the result is quite
evident that even today people listen to such songs as this one. Listen to
the lyrics of this song, it's so poetic and music is full of melody. People
don't get bored even after listening such songs for 65years. On the
contrary, the present day Bollywood, like Annu Malik in one of DID episode
was blowing his own trumpet said that he wrote and composed a song in 15
minutes. LOL. Today's Bollywood music directors copies or imitate western
musics, you listen to that music once or twice, sounds good or ok and after
that nobody listens because it gets boring and then nobody remembers. Such
is the quality and fate of today's Bollywood music.
